Community Workshops

We provide quality workshops in partnershop with local island organizations whose goals align with ours.

Through events at our own stores, local schools, hospitals, and other organizations’ venues, we’ve had the honor of working directly with many great local organizations. One such organization is the Hawaii Organic Farming Association (HOFA).

HOFA's mission is to further organic and sustainable agriculture, land care, and lifestyles in Hawaii, thus giving meaning and life to the Hawaii state motto: Ua mau ke ea o ka aina I ka pono “ The Life of the Land is Perpetuated in Righteousness.”

In February 2014, Down to Earth sponsored an all-day "Grow Organic" event, hosted by HOFA, at the Hale Moli'i garden property of the Kualoa Ranch. During the one-day hands on organic event, participants spent the morning out in the field learning from Master Gardener, Jon Biloon, how to grow organic papaya. They listened to his informative seminar around topics related to "organic," later in the day. Pictured above is a small slice of the over 100 participants who spent the day with us and got to enjoy a delicious lunch catered by Down to Earth, against the gorgeous backdrop of the Kualoa Mountains.

Representative Jessica Wooley, Chair of the Hawaii State Agriculture Committe, gave the keynote adddress regarding agricultural issues in Hawaii and the positive impact that small organic farms and local food systems can play in our everyday lives. A “Seed & Plant Exchange” enabled participants to learn about and exchange various plants and seeds. At the close of the day, all were invited to join HOFA’s visioning general membership meeting, led by HOFA President & Down to Earth Chief Organic Officer (CEO/CFO), Mark Fergusson.
